A Berkshire Hathaway Insurer for Nevada Work Vehicles
Leo and Lillian Goodwin founded GEICO in 1936. It became a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway in 1996, when Warren Buffett bought the stock Berkshire did not already own, and GEICO reports more than $93 billion in assets. In April 2026, AM Best affirmed the Financial Strength Rating of A++ (Superior) and the Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of aaa (Exceptional) for the GEICO member companies, including Government Employees Insurance Company, both with stable outlooks. Most people know GEICO for personal auto, but it also writes commercial auto for contractors, service businesses, and trucking operations.
Nevada has its own rules for work vehicles. Liability insurance is required on vehicles registered in Nevada and driven on public streets, with minimum limits of $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident for bodily injury and $20,000 for property damage. The policy has to be written for Nevada, and the DMV checks coverage electronically through its NV LIVE program. A lapse of even one day can lead to a suspended registration plus reinstatement fees and fines. The Nevada DMV also requires a USDOT number for vehicles weighing 26,001 pounds or more, even if they only operate in Nevada, and other state or federal rules may apply depending on the operation. The 25/50/20 minimum is a floor for ordinary vehicle registration. Commercial motor carriers can be subject to much higher liability limits, and the limits your business needs depend on your vehicles, your contracts, and what you have to protect.

Where GEICO Fits, and Where It Does Not
Vehicles in Our GEICO Program
The GEICO Nevada commercial auto program available through Oakview takes a wide range of body styles: delivery and shop trucks, cargo vans, catering and ice cream trucks, flatbeds, stake trucks, box trucks, dump trucks, tank trucks, pump trucks, cement trucks, garbage trucks, refrigeration trucks, ag hopper trucks, street sweepers, front loaders, roll-on vehicles, car carriers, and tractors. Each vehicle should be valued under $300,000.
Risks Outside Our GEICO Program
Under the GEICO Nevada commercial auto program available through Oakview, hazmat haulers, towing operations, mobile home toters, and UIIA intermodal work are outside the current underwriting appetite. So are rideshare, taxi, black car, limousine, bus, and non-emergency medical transport operations, along with vehicles garaged in more than one state and any cherry picker, bucket truck, boom truck, or crane. If your operation falls in one of these, we can look at the other carriers we can access.

So are vehicles garaged in more than one state and any cherry picker, bucket truck, boom truck, or crane. We can quote those risks with other carriers we can access.
Can GEICO insure my trucks?
Yes, for operations with fewer than 10 power units and up to 20 trailers. GEICO writes local, intermediate, and long haul truck for hire, plus light trucks that do not need a DOT number. Depending on the risk, trucking policies can add endorsements such as refrigeration breakdown, hired and non-owned auto, trailer interchange, and non-owned trailer coverage, and safe drivers may earn savings through DriveEasy Pro, GEICO's telematics program.
